Self-pay sessions are $150. For clients using insurance, please contact your insurance provider to find out about your coverage and how much you can expect to pay. Deductibles and copays vary by plan.

How long are sessions?

My standard session length is 60 minutes, but I also offer 45-minute sessions for those who need a shorter appointment time.

What is therapy like with you?

I take a warm and collaborative approach to counseling. I see my role as a guide rather than a teacher. I let clients decide the direction we go during sessions and over the course of therapy. I dig deep with clients to help them discover and resolve the root causes of their symptoms.

How do I know if we’re a good fit?

The best way is to meet with me and find out! If you are looking for someone to give you quick fixes, I am probably not the right counselor for you.

What happens during the free 15-minute consultation?

We meet over a secure video platform and discuss any questions you have about me, my approach, insurance, etc. Many clients like to share why they are seeking counseling and get my perspective. Often we schedule your first appointment during the consultation, but there is no obligation.

What do I do when I arrive for my appointment?

When you arrive, take a seat in the waiting room and send me a text. I will come out and get you.

What should I expect at my first appointment?

The first appointment consists of going over the initial paperwork that you will fill out before the appointment. We will discuss your goals for therapy, and you will get a chance to tell me more about yourself and the challenges you are facing.

Do you work with people who are leaving religion as well as people who want to remain religious?

Absolutely! Your beliefs are yours. Therapy is not about telling you what to believe. Whether you want to remain in your faith, leave it, reconstruct it, or aren’t sure yet, you can explore those questions without pressure or judgment.

What if I don’t want religion incorporated into therapy?

There is no expectation that religion is a part of therapy. I provide spiritual integration as an option, but you get to decide how and if it is incorporated into sessions.

Do you do podcasts or speaking events?

Yes! I have been a guest on podcasts and have presented at several speaking events, including the HP Women’s Business Resource Group, Idaho Counselors United Conference, and Thrive Beyond Religion.

Why did you name your practice Syringa Counseling?

Syringa (pronounced sr-ING-guh) is the state flower of Idaho. I love flowers! Syringas are hardy plants known for being able to thrive in a variety of conditions. As the owner of Syringa Counseling, my goal is to help clients thrive in whatever conditions they find themselves.

How did you choose the theme for your office?

On the walls of my office are pictures from a trip I took to Maine several years ago when I was going through a very difficult season of life. As I stood on the coast and felt the breeze hit my face, I experienced a sense of calm I hadn’t felt in a long time. I strive to bring that same feeling to my therapy space.
